Ways to help
Not all volunteering
happens at school
If none of the open shifts fit, one of these probably does.
- Event daySet up, run a table, clean up. Two-hour blocks, on campus.
- Classroom supportHelp a teacher with a project, a party or a field trip.
- From homeCut, sort, label, bake, print. Work that travels.
- CommitteeJoin a standing committee and shape what the PTSA does next.
- Donate goodsSupplies and gift cards when your calendar is full.
- Spread the wordBring one more family from your child’s class into the PTSA.

Required before your first shift
Every volunteer must
register with M-DCPS
Miami-Dade County Public Schools requires a background check for anyone volunteering on campus. It is free, it takes about ten minutes, and everyone re-registers every school year — including if you volunteered last year.
- Open the M-DCPS Volunteer Registration Portal and complete the eight-step form.
- Under School Preferences, choose Leewood K-8 Center.
- Submit, then wait for approval before your first shift. The school will let you know.
Fingerprints are not needed for most PTSA volunteering. M-DCPS only requires Level 2 screening for overnight chaperones, mentors, Listeners/Oyentes, and district office volunteers. Classroom help, event days and school-site shifts do not.
